I’m an optimistic, level-headed 41-year-old that is passionate about local government issues.

Like many people, I wear several hats. I’m a working professional, a wife to a lovely man, and a mother to my eight-year-old daughter.

I am also a friend, daughter, passionate volunteer, and recreational athlete.

I’ve worked in local government for nine years and understand the reality of how Council operates as an organisation. This experience sets me apart from other candidates.

There are many activities I enjoy that keep me feeling healthy and happy, such as catching up with friends, going for a long run, heading out for a surf, or taking my mountain bike for a spin.

I love living in Clarence as I can do all these activities within 10 minutes of my home!

Values and personality

I believe the most effective leaders are those that lead by their values.

I value collaboration, service, equanimity (sound interesting? I invite you to look it up!) and courage. I live these values through my behaviour and the decisions I make.

I am friendly, optimistic and I embrace vulnerability.

I am driven to connect and engage our community in local decision-making. I don’t want to wait for the future to unfold; I want to build it - together! Let’s ensure our future is bright, for generations to come.

Motivations for running

“I always wondered why somebody doesn’t do something about that. Then I realised I was somebody.”

- Lily Tomlin

The median age of Clarence is 41 yet we have had very few (if any) Alderman under the age of 50. There are also more people who identify as female (51.3%) living in our community yet the majority of Alderman identify as male.

We need greater diversity on our Council; in age, culture, gender, sexual preference and thought. Yet most people don’t want to become political figures as it can be challenging and possibly even hurtful.

As Lily Tromlin pointed out, I can either wait for somebody else to do something or I can be the somebody, so here I am!

This is a critical time in the history of our community as we experience significant growth. Over the next 30 years, the Greater Hobart area (which includes Clarence) is expected to welcome an additional 60,000 residents. This will require new infrastructure such as homes, schools, shopping centres, roads etc.

Now is our opportunity to shape the future of our community. We can either get it right or horribly wrong. Doing this well requires good planning and I want to put my knowledge and experience of working in local government to good use!

How I make decisions

I am CURIOUS, CONSIDERED and COURAGEOUS in my decision-making.

Like many people, I have expertise in certain areas but unlike some people, I realise what I don’t know.

Therefore, when making decisions I start with curiosity. I learn as much as I can by asking inquisitive questions, seek expertise and listen to differing points of view.

Next, I carefully consider the information I’ve gathered until I need to make the decision.

Some of my decisions will go against the status quo, and this takes courage. I have the courage to think and do things differently.
